Power Electrics place £3 million order with FG Wilson

Power Electrics, one of the largest specialist providers of generator solutions in the UK, has just placed an order for £3 million of generator stock with FG Wilson. The purchase comes ahead of what is predicted to be an extremely busy year for the company following a major move to a new £2 million premises, thought to be the biggest site of its kind in Europe. FG Wilson, a subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc. is the largest manufacturer of generator sets in the UK and exports to over 170 countries worldwide. The £1.5 million investment will be used by Power Electrics to extend its fleet of generators at the new facility in Bristol and at its depots in South Wales, Stoke-on-Trent, Cambridge and London. Interestingly, the history of both businesses is remarkably similar. Power Electrics and FG Wilson began life as small, family-run businesses in the 1960s and since then both companies have witnessed extraordinary growth. Power Electrics was founded in 1963 by Ambrose Pullin with just three people, a small yard in Bristol and a handful of generators. Since then, the company has expanded rapidly with Ambrose's sons John and Andy Pullin now at the helm. In 1990 the company had a budgeted turnover of £300,000, this year that figure is £13 million. In 1966 The Wilson family began manufacturing generator sets in an old textile mill in Belfast. Since the 1970s the company has been transformed into an internationally renowned exporter with sales offices and dealers on every continent. The Wilson family sold the business to Emerson Electric in 1995 and in 1999 FG Wilson became part of the Caterpillar family of companies. "Power Electrics has experienced unprecedented growth in the past fifteen years. The expansion of the generator fleet and move to a larger premises was essential to facilitate our future plans for the company. This, plus our partnership as one of FG Wilson's largest dealers in the UK, offers our customer best package of products and services available in the market" said Steve Williams Rental Sales Manager.
