What is the job?

As one of the largest generator specialists, our mission is to explore new opportunities where reliable power is critical and continue to grow sustainably in current markets.

We are currently looking for a hardworking and reliable Maintenance Technician / Operative (Handy Person) who is organised, has excellent attention to detail and can work well under pressure.

This is a varied and busy role which covers all aspects of maintenance, so you must have good all-round handyperson skills.  The successful candidate will have experience in general maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and other related tasks.

What will you be doing in this role

The role covers a wide range of routine, planned and reactive maintenance duties including:

  • Plumbing repairs: leaks, blockages, drainage problems etc. in staff canteens and washroom facilities.
  • Installing and repairing fixtures and fittings.
  • Basic carpentry tasks.
  • General maintenance tasks: painting and decorating (interior and exterior), grounds upkeep (sweeping, clearing gutters/downpipes, dealing with snow, ice and other seasonal hazards), landscaping and cleaning.
  • Carrying out minor electrical jobs such as replacing light fittings, sockets, and switches.
  • General repairs: Replacing broken windows, doors, cabinets and other fixtures and fittings.
  • Minor repairs and improvements to equipment and facilities.
  • HVAC equipment repairs and servicing, as required.
  • Moving and loading of equipment in the yard.
  • Carrying out site visits to assess positioning or removal of equipment.
  • Comply with the company health and safety policy, including carrying out general housekeeping to ensure work areas are tidy. This includes company vehicles.
  • Comply with all aspects of the company's quality, environmental and occupational health and safety management standards, proactively contributing to the company’s continuous improvement programme.

 

Skills and requirement

Essential

  • A building maintenance/electrical/plumbing/carpentry qualification or a minimum of 2 years experience in a property maintenance or general repairs role.
  • Friendly and approachable, with a good understanding of general building maintenance including, heating, hot and cold-water distribution, ventilation, electrics, plumbing, painting and carpentry.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions (hot, cold, wet) as well as in all types of lighting conditions (daylight, nightlight).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A full driving licence is essential for this role.

Desirable

  • Holder of current CSCS/CPCS/NPORS card.
  • Forklift licence.                                                                
  • MEWP (static/mobile vertical/boom lift) licences.                        
  • Banksman / Slinger lifting operations training.
    • (Training can be given for the above)
